Fight Review: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs Kermit Cintron

On Saturday Nov. 26th 2011, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez squared off against Kermit 'The Killer' Cintron in Mexico City.  Alvarez was facing his 4th fight in the year 2011, looking to go perfect in the closing year.
The first couple of rounds, Alvarez was feeling out Cintron and using his counter punches to match with Kermit's high volume jab work.  By the 3rd round, Canelo seemed very confident as he felt Kermit's power punching and giving almost no respect to Cintron's shots.  Canelo used strong hooks to the body to downsize the taller Cintron.  In the 4th round it was more of the same scenario, Canelo's hard hooks to the body followed by hooks & overhand rights to Cintron's head.  Alvarez managed to score a knock down against Cintron, who really began to feel Canelo's far superior power.  Kermit just made it out of the 4th round as he seemed dazed & confused before barely making it to his corner where it seemed he wouldn't be able to continue.  Cintron showed great heart by coming out in the 5th round, where Canelo met him with strong hooks to the head as he knew Cintron was hurt.  Cintron did put up a fight in the 5th as he might have stunned Canelo a couple times with hard hey makers that landed on Alvarez.  By that time Kermit looked really gassed an uncoordinated as he threw his power punches, Canelo took advantage of this by rocking Cintron with more power shots to Cintron's head.  The referee put a halt to the bout with less than 10 seconds left in the 5th round while Kermit was ready to take another knee on the canvas.  A perfect 4-0 Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez goes in 2011 as he defeated Kermit Cintron with a 5th round TKO.
After the fight, Canelo discussed his interest in wanting to face the best in 2012, starting by calling out Floyd Mayweather J.R.  As intriguing as that may sound, in my opinion, I think Canelo has far more better fights against fighters like, Chavez J.R., Sergio Martinez, the winner between Cotto-Margarito.  Nevertheless, Alvarez does seem to be ready to fight the cream of the crop in the Super Welterweight division, that goes without doubt.  Should make for an exciting 2012 for the young Canelo.
HBO's fights in Cincinnati produced stellar knockouts from hometown kid Adrien Broner in the 3rd round of his bout versus Martin Rodriguez.  Capturing the WBO Junior Lightweight World Title, Broner would like to set himself up with greater fights in the upcoming year.
Gary Russell J.R. also won with a ferocious knock out of late replacement fighter, Heriberto Ruiz.
Good action packed quickie fights brought to us by HBO's 'Boxing After Dark'.

Results:
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez(win by 5th rd. TKO)
Adrien Broner(win by 3rd rd. KO)
Gary Russell(win by 1st rd. KO)

Fight Preview: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs Kermit Cintron

This Satrurday night Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will return to HBO's 'Boxing After Dark' & face off against Kermit Cintron.  Canelo will put up his Super Welterweight title versus Cintron in Mexico City.  Canelo is finishing up his very busy 2011 year with his 4th fight on HBO, where he has faced Matthew Hatton, Ryan Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez & now Kermit Cintron on Saturday.
Kermit Cintron is trying to revamp his career coming off a 1-2 record in his last 3 fights.  Cintron has faced notable fighters, such as Antonio Margarito(Cintron lost twice), Paul Williams(Cintron lost), Alfredo Angulo(Cintron win), & Sergio Martinez(draw).  So Kermit claims he has what it takes and posesses the far more superior experience to square off and pull the upset against the young phenom in Canelo.
On Saturday night, these two will face off in Mexico City, part of HBO's double header which they will also feature WBO #1 Junior Lightweight contender, Adrien Broner who will face #6 ranked Martin Rodriguez for the vacant WBO Junior Lightweight World Title.  Also rising star Gary Russell J.R. will be in action that night in Cinncinati.  Should make for a great night in boxing, broadcasted by HBO Saturday November 26th 2011 at 7:30 pm PST.

Noez Predictions:
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez wins by TKO(6th round)
Adrien Broner wins by TKO(4th round)
Gary Russell J.R. wins

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five "The Message" Inducted Into The Grammy Hall Of Fame

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’s classic single “The Message” will be the first Hip-Hop recording to be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
“The Message” is one of 25 records selected by the Recording Academy’s strict governing body, which reviewed each record for its cultural impact and historical significance.
Additionally, to even be considered, the record in question must be at least 25 years old.
“The Recording Academy is dedicated to celebrating a wide variety of great music and sound through the decades,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. “We are especially honored to welcome this year’s selection of some of the most influential recordings of the last century. Marked by both cultural and historical significance, these works truly have influenced and inspired audiences for generations, and we are thrilled to induct them into our growing catalog of outstanding recordings.”
The Message was also the title of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’s debut release for Sugarhill Records.
Upon its release the group consisted of Grandmaster Melle Mel, Scorpio, Kid Creole, Cowboy, Rahiem and Grandmaster Flash.
In addition to Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’s “The Message,” a number of other historical American recordings were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame as well.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 “I Have A Dream” speech, Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes,” the Rolling Stones’ album Exile On Main St and recordings by Mahalia Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Bill Cosby, Leroy Carr and Gene Autrey were also inducted.

Angulo vs Kirkland: Fight Review

Angulo v Kirkland lived up to what I expected out of these 2 warriors, fireworks!  From the opening bell they went to war, producing possibly the round of the year.  Angulo knocked down Kirkland with what was a flash knockdown in the 1st minute, which didn't seem to hurt Kirkland.  Angulo swarmed Kirland for about 2 minutes but could not finish him, Angulo punched himself out.  Kirkland got his 2nd wind and proceeded to go to work on Angulo, landing power shots that took a toll on Angulo & eventually knocked down Angulo, what a 1st round!  Angulo never seemed to recover from that point on, as Kirkland took advatage & started racking up round after round.  Angulo showed great heart by trying to fight through Kirkland's onslaught, but he was too gassed to recover from Kirkland's powerful pressure.  Kirkland wound up stopping Angulo in the 6th round, what a fight.  Just what boxing needed, a shot in the arm.  These 2 warriors put it all on the line, but at the end, Kirkland catapulted himself as a true contender in the division, as for Angulo, he can only hold his head up high with pride for showing great heart.  I would not mind watching Angulo v Kirkland 2 in the future, this fight was what boxing is all about, heart & action.

*For the record, I did pick Angulo to win by stoppage in the 6th, it ended up being Kirkland with win by stoppage.

Angulo vs Kirkland: Fight Preview

As soon as I caught wind of this fight happening, I was immediately filled with excitement & anticipation.  Alfredo 'Perro' Angulo was put on ice for about 2 years due to his fallout with promoter Gary Shaw.  Since then, El 'Perro' has signed on with Golden Boy Promotions & has been involved in one fight that Angulo immediately finished his opponent in one round.  In addition to a new promoter, Perro has also upgraded to Hall-of-Fame trainer, Nacho Beristein, Perro has set himself up with a team that can propel his career to new heights.

James 'Mandingo Warrior' Kirkland, also was iced for a couple of years, not to any promotional disputes like Angulo, Kirkland was iced due to being incarcerated on gun charges.  Kirkland was well on his way to becoming a superstar with his trainer Ann Wolf & Golden Boy Promotions at the helm of his career, but due to the incarceration, Kirkland's career was put on a sudden halt.  After about 2 years, Kirkland hired a new trainer & had to prove himself by taking on any competition that he can find, fighting a bunch of no-names to climb up the ladder just to get back to where he once was headed.  Kirkland ran into another speed bump when  he took on Japanese, Nobuhiro Ishida who fought with an incredible Japanese spirit that shocked and ended up knocking out Kirkland in the 1st round to give James a taste of defeat.  Since that defeat, Kirkland has reunited himself with trainer Ann Wolf, & has been demolishing his competition.

It all leads up to tonights fight on HBO's Boxing After Dark, which is set for some real fireworks. Both fighters are ready to give their careers a real boost by winning tonights match.  The winner will become an instant player in the Super Welterweight division.  Most importantly, these two combatants can give the sport of boxing a much needed shot in the arm after fans have been really disappointed with the recent shenanigans that have been displayed on Pay-Per-View main events.  Kudos to Golden Boy Promotions for matching Angulo v Kirkland & for having it on regular HBO, this fight can possibly produce a positive buzz that boxing so dearly needs right now to get the sport back on the radar of the common sports fan.  Angulo v Kirkland, prepare for some fireworks tonight!  Check it out on HBO's Boxing after dark.

Noez Prediction: Angulo will stop Kirkland in the 6th round.
