Z-Trip on the MikiDz Show

One of my favorite DJ's stops by and drops a dope set on the MikiDz show.  Z-Trip is one of the illest, and most humble cats I've met.  Quick story, I met Z-Trip while Divine Forces Radio was in full effect, and Z-Trip had just moved out to L.A.  Z-Trip came by the station and noticed that we had a crappy monitor while we were mixing on the show.  So one night he decided to suprise us by bringing us a kick-ass JBL self-powered speaker, which he tagged "Z-Trip" on it.  He had heard our show, and just had to stop by and give us props.  Well just so happened we didn't broadcast live that night and we had a board-op running our pre-recorded show.  I was listening to the show that night and heard the board-op got on air and say that Z-Trip had just gotten there and brought a suprise for the DFR crew.  I immediately called KPFK to get in contact with Z-Trip to thank him.  We had a dope convo, and he was so gracious telling me how much he appreciated our show.  That was one of the most illest things I've ever experienced while at DFR, shouts out to Z-Trip!

A Tribe Called Quest documentary premiering on Sundance Film Festival

A Tribe Called Quest fans can officially rejoice: The documentary chronicling the group’s rise to fame as well as their legacy has been accepted into the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Held in Park City, Utah, the gathering is where Michael Rapaport, director of the documentary, cut his teeth in the film world.
“My personal goal for the movie was always to premiere it at Sundance Film Festival,” he said. “I’ve always had affection for the festival: The first time I ever saw myself in a movie was in 1992 at the world premiere of my first movie, ‘Zebrahead.’ I couldn’t be happier. For me, it’s the premier film festival.”
“Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest,” which has drawn scrutiny from group member Q-Tip, boasts a rough and ready quality found in previous documentaries about legendary bands such as Led Zeppelin and the Beatles.
“I wanted it to be a classic rock-and-roll-style documentary,” Rapaport said. “If you grew up listening to hip-hop and you were around A Tribe Called Quest, it was a part of your life.
“They are the equivalent to Led Zeppelin, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. I’ve been fans of those groups and fans of documentaries about those groups for a long time, and when I approached doing this film, I wanted to treat it in the same way. I didn’t want it to be over-produced; I wanted it to have a rawness to it.”
As for who stops by to chat about the group, Rapaport lined up a storied list of talent: “I shot Pharrell, ?uestlove and Black Thought from the Roots, obviously Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Mos Def, Monie Love, the Jungle Brothers, Too Short, Ludacris … a bunch of people,” he said. “All of those people pop up in one incarnation or another.”

Saigon Freestle on Toca Tuesdays

Toca Tuesdays on Shade 45 feat. Saigon...they bust to an ill beat on this one:

MF Doom-Operation Doomsday (Deluxe Re-issue)

The history of MF DOOM’s debut album OPERATION: DOOMSDAY is a spotty one – it’s been released in at least two different versions on different labels, out of print, bootlegged, and even released once with a cheap scan of the original cover.
This Spring DOOM’s own label Metalface Records will be releasing the first complete & remastered version of OPERATION: DOOMSDAY, containing the original album, alternate versions, b-sides and instrumentals – 51 tracks total – with all new artwork and two deluxe, metal formats:
LUNCH BOX 2/CD and METAL 4/LP BOX each containing a 32-page lyric book, and set of 10 cards with images of the Operation Doomsday MCs.

J Dilla Documentary

Here is an ill documentary on one of Hip Hop's most respected producers, the late-great J Dilla.  Shouts out to the homie Mega7981, I checked this Doc out on his site, www.neitherworldradio.wordpress.com    Here's his intro to the Documentary:

YOUR FAVORITE PRODUCERS, FAVORITE PRODUCER…. JAY DEE / J-DILLA / DILLA
Always remembered, never forgotten!
>>>>insert pic
My crew and I first heard of him as Jay-Dee, and no no not Jermaine Dupree lol. His name always came up in the production credits when reading it on a album or cassette cover, like The Pharcydes second album Labcabin, DeLa’s Steaks is High, Erykah Badus “Mamma’s Gun, Common’s Like Water for Chocolate album, etc..
When Slum Village came out, oooweee insert thizz face. I was fortunate to shoot a grip concert video footage of Slum Village during the Good Vibe days. My boy Nathan had permission to hang with them on tour and he’d bring me along to help when any Good Vibe artist played in California. It was a cool experience I got to meet a lot of cool artist and people including Baatin (R.I.P.). They were always humble and down to earth and they all gave me proper dap and signed my J-88 record. I would have never guess they had internal issues. I was such a fanboy that day trying to play it cool lol.
>>>>>insert vinyl pic
Anyway back to my Dilla story………
So Nathan needs to borrow my Cannon Xl1 (which use to be the dope camera back in the day) to shoot a Slum Village show and he could only get 1 media pass, so I was left out. So in exchange to borrow my camera I told him to hook me up with his 2 vinyl copies of white label test presses of “Fall In love” that he said he got from Dilla himself. It had the remix on the b-side and the instrumentals for both versions. Till this day it’s one of my favorite records. I think it was an easy deal for my homie Nathan cause Im sure he felt he could always get more copies since he was always filming them for his documentary. Either way I came up big and never expected for Dilla to pass away, and as a fan my jaw dropped and couldn’t believe it and knew HipHop/Rap music lost a big part of it’s soul and that part can never be replaced.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>insert vinyl pic
Well here’s Stussy’s documentary which gathers everyone close to Dilla, sharing stories on the latter part of his career. I found it on youtube today, so if you haven’t seen it, get your pop corn ready. If you don’t know who Dilla is and you like Hip Hop music….awww man stop jacking off to your Drake poster and smack yourself in the face and act like you know!
IT”S ALL LOVE

Shouts to Fredroespi for putting up the vid, dope:

DJ Premier's Top 25 Hip Hop Albums of 2010

OK ! NOW, ABOUT MY TOP 25 (HIP HOP LP’S ACCORDING TO DJ PREMIER)
I TRIED MY BEST TO DO TOP 20 AND I COULD NOT DO IT….THERE WERE SO MANY INDEPENDENT RELEASES THAT SPANKED THE MAJOR LABELS WHEN IT CAME TO HOW I JUDGE HIP HOP MUSIC…..FOR ALL OF YOU SHALLOW MINDED FOLK, I JUDGE HIP HOP BASED ON ORIGINALITY, STYLE, IF I CAN LISTEN TO THE WHOLE LP FROM INTRO TO OUTRO, ARE THE BEATS GOOD, ARE THE LYRICS WORTH LISTENING TO, DOES IT REPRESENT THE GHETTO IN ANY TYPE OF WAY FOR THE RAW AND HARDCORE AUDIENCE (WHICH INCLUDES ME) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY DOES IT MEET MY EXPECTATIONS FOR WHAT I KNOW THAT AN ARTIST SHOULD DELIVER SINCE I DO SPEND MY MONEY AND I AM A FAN, SO I SET A HIGH BAR ON THE ARTISTS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING ME HAPPY WITH WHAT THEY DELIVER….I PUT MYSELF IN THAT SAME BOX WHICH IS WHY I STILL REMAIN CONSISTENT IN MY 40′S…..JAY-Z IS STILL RUNNIN’ THIS RAP SHIT BECAUSE HE KNOWS HOW THE GAME GOES…..Y’ALL BETTER KEEP UP…..HATE ME NOW FOR BEING HONEST………ONE……..p

Nas on the art of mixtapes

Really looking foward to checking this out, I actually started with tapes myself, recording radio shows& making mixed tapes. I really have an interest on other peoples take on this subject, because I was a HUGE mix tape buff, still got most of my tapes stashed away in a gym bag...I may have to make my own 'mix tape chronicles' soon..hmmm?(not a bad idea)
In the meantime, here's Nas's take:(full clip coming soon at www.tdkhifi.com along with other cool chronicles)
