Look-a-like of the Day
For this version of 'Look-a-like of the Day', it might a bit too far fetched, but yesterday's Endeavor flyover & sighting was pretty cool. When I saw it while driving through the 605 freeway headed southbound, I couldn't help but notice the resemblance to an odd duo, a duo like SNL's 'Ambiguously Gay Duo'. The Endeavor looking like the Ambiguously Gay Duo, really? Let's take a look:
(Sorry if anyone is offended with this resemblance, but hey, it is what it is.)

Fight Review: Canelo v Lopez
The main event in the Knockout Kings stellar fight card at the MGM in Las Vegas was between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs Josesito Lopez. Josesito came in to the fight as the obvious underdog once again, especially since he had to jump two weight classes to meet the young Mexican phenom in Canelo. Canelo's Super Welterweight title was on the line, but it never really was in jeopardy. Despite Josesito showing great heart in a valiant effort versus Canelo, Lopez never really hurt Canelo.
From the opening bell, Canelo displayed his great offensive skills, utilizing awesome combinations to the head and body of Lopez. Josesito clearly was overmatched by the pure power and skills of Canelo, as it was evident from the opening bell. Doubt had to reign in the mind of Lopez as Canelo shrugged of Lopez's offensive rallies and answered back with clean combos and deadly body shots. Alvarez took advantage of being able to corner Lopez to the ropes where he got off bruising body punches that Lopez felt & made him cripple to the mat, as was the result in the closing seconds of the 2nd round. Too much power from Canelo would send Josesito to the mat in the 2:10 mark of the 3rd round. A great display of defense by Canelo, dodging some of Lopez punches while coming back with another left hook to the body that sent Lopez down. Canelo was the clear aggressor as he showed total control of the fight highlighted by another knockdown in the 4th round, this time by a combo to the body and head. Canelo would only need 5 rounds to do away with Lopez as Alvarez would score a 5th round TKO. A total display of aggression, control, sweet combinations & ferocious body punches by Canelo Alvarez.
What is next for Canelo? The possibilities are intriguing, the winner of Miguel Cotto v Austin Trout, James Kirkland, Alfredo Angulo or even Floyd Mayweather. The future is bright for this young Mexican phenom, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Fight Review: Chavez Jr. v Martinez
In a highly anticipated fight, Chavez Jr. vs Martinez fought for Chavez's Middleweight Title. No more talking smack, it was time to put up, or shut up. Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez imposed his will and skills very early in the fight, blasting Chavez Jr with an arsenal of technical punches with mobility and accuracy that seemed to confuse the younger champion. It just seemed that Chavez Jr. was unable to figure out Martinez's fight style, and that clearly lost precious rounds for Chavez Jr. who could never really get off the punches he needed to get off against Maravilla. A clear shut out and dominant performance was turned in, as a route was in plain sight in front of over 19,000 fight fans at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Then, shades of a classic bout between Chavez Sr. & Meldrick Taylor dawned in the 12 round, where Chavez Jr. clearly needed a miracle KO to win the fight, and miraculously so it nearly happened. Chavez Jr. caught Martinez with a left hook that sent Martinez crashing down in a haze towards the ropes where he in a daze bounced of the ropes and towards Chavez Jr. where he met more punches from him and sent Martinez to the canvas. Chavez Jr. had less than 90 seconds to try & pull the greatest comeback in boxing history since, Chavez Sr. v Meldrick Taylor. Martinez made it back to his feet where he went toe-to-toe against the rejuvenated Chavez Jr., unfortunately for Chavez Jr. he needed more time or maybe he would have pulled off the miracle. One bad round for Martinez nearly cost him the fight, but he survived the 12th round and wound up winning by unanimous decision by scores of 117-110, 118-109 twice. What a round, a round that now has people questioning whether Chavez Jr. could have finished Martinez if he had more time & would have started his onslaught alot sooner, and now a possible rematch looms in the air. One can't take away the beating that Martinez gave to Chavez Jr. for 11 rounds, but one bad round could possibly give Chavez Jr. another shot at the title in the near future, Chavez Jr. vs Martinez 2 anyone?

Fight Preview: Canelo vs Lopez
Knockout Kings will feature Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs Josesito Lopez live from MGM in Las Vegas. Canelo will put up his WBC Super Middleweight Championship on the line when he squares off against Lopez.
Canelo has blossomed into a superstar in the sport of boxing, attracting huge crowds during his fights, and tonight another huge crowd will witness him defending his title versus Josesito. Lopez forcefully made himself the #1 contender to face Canelo when he defeated, then #1 contender, Victor Ortiz. Lopez showed heart and determination in that fight, where he proved he can perform in the big stage, as he did at Staples in Los Angeles earlier this year, where he won not only the fight, but the respect of many fight fans.
Canelo must fight his fight, dictating the tempo, using his vicious combinations to the body & head, and being the aggressor showing true ring generalship. It will be interesting to see, once Canelo begins to tee-off, if Lopez will be able to take Canelo's fury and respond with one if his own.
Josesito Lopez is making the jump from a junior welterweight to super welterweight, that's a 2 division jump. It'll be seen if Lopez will still pack a punch while gaining weight. Also by gaining more weight, will Lopez be able to build up enough speed to dodge some of Canelo's flurries. He showed that he can mix it up before, but can he mix it up with a bigger fighter who is a true super middleweight, yet to be seen.
What makes this such an intriguing matchup, is the fact that Josesito Lopez has been in this scenario before. Being a huge underdog coming in to a fight showing heart, will, and determination, and actually pulling out the upset. Can Lopez do it again against arguably the more skilled, stronger fighter in Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. We will find out tonight if he can shock the boxing world one more time.
I think Canelo will prove to be much more skilled, stronger, and faster than Lopez, I just can't see how Lopez will pull it off again. I have Canelo winning by TKO in the 7th round, as I think Canelo will prove to be far more superior than Lopez. But don't count out Lopez, he has grit & enjoys coming in to a fight as the underdog where he has that 'nothing to lose' mentality, and that can be dangerous.
Don't miss out Knockout Kings tonight shown on Showtime Sports at 6pm PST.
Noez Predictions:
Canelo Wins By 7th Rd TKO
Jhonny Gonzalez Wins by decision
Marcos Maidana Wins By 9th Rd TKO
Leo Santa Cruz Wins by decision

Fight Preview: Chavez Jr. vs Martinez
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Sergio Martinez will finally meet this Saturday, September 15th, 2012 live from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. This will be a fight of will and determination, time for all the jibber-jibber to stop and for the real fight to begin. The WBC Middleweight Championship will be on the line for these two warriors. Chavez Jr. promises to put 'Maravilla' Martinez into retirement, as Maravilla promises to give Jr a severe beating. Both fighters are coming in to the fight on top of their game, which should make for a great showdown between the two.
Chavez Jr must stick to his game plan of applying pressure with ring generalship & body punching to try & wear down Martinez. Easier said than done, of course, but Chavez Jr has the ability to eventually get the fight he's looking for, while stalking his opponent. He also has proven to take a 'good' punch, although it is yet to be seen how he will take a punch from 'Maravilla' Martinez. Overall for Chavez Jr, he must take advantage of his youth and size to try & get to Martinez, and if he does that, he can possibly hurt Martinez.
Once again, easier said than done, Martinez possesses a very difficult fight style that brings confusion & frustration to his opponents. He comes in with hands down, bobbing and weaving his way into his opposition, looking to land his big over hand left punch. He must try and frustrate Chavez Jr to disrupt his plan, doing so can eventually mean goodnight for Chavez Jr. The 'stick & move' style of Martinez could secure rounds for him if the fight reaches the full 12 rounds. Chavez Jr must prove that he has improved his defense, if he has, Martinez may have to fight Chavez's fight, in the inside.
If this fight becomes a closed quarter fight, it can only favor Chavez Jr, who enjoys trading punches while eventually wearing his opponent down leaving them open for huge Chavez shots to the body & head. For Martinez to beat Chavez Jr, he must box his style of fight while looking to land his left and testing the defense and chin of Chavez Jr.
I see Chavez Jr enticing Martinez to fight his fight, Martinez wants to prove he belongs in the discussion of the 'Top 5' pound-for-pound fighters in the world, so I see him taking the challenge of a close-quarter fight. Therefore I believe Chavez Jr can pull the upset and set himself up as a true champion who belongs with the elite fighters, fighting 'big' fights. I have Chavez Jr winning by 11th Rd TKO and pulling the upset.
Chavez Jr vs Martinez will be shown by HBO PPV starting at 6pm PST.
Noez Predicitons:
Chavez Wins By 11th Rd TKO
Rigondaux Wins by 3rd TKO
Beltran Jr Wins by Decision

Top Rank v Golden Boy:Chavez-Martinez v Canelo-Lopez
This Saturday, September 15th, 2012, the 2 top boxing promotions will go head-to-head presenting 2 great fight cards. Top Rank will headline a fight card featuring Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs Sergio Martinez for the middleweight championship. Golden Boy Promotions will feature a fight card headlined by Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs Josesito Lopez. Both these fights are definitely worthy of main event praise, so the real question becomes, who has the best overall fight card? Now it's important to point out that the Top Rank promotion will be an HBO PPV telecast, as for the Golden Boy Promotion, that will be a Showtime telecast.
Top Rank's undercard features a super featherweight WBA championship bout between Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Roberto Marroquin. This bout is actually in current limbo and is in danger of being canceled. Roman Martinez vs Miguel Beltran Jr. will duel it out for the vacant WBO junior lightweight title. Matthew Macklin will square off against Joachim Alcine, as well as Mike Lee of Notre Dame is set to be in action against an opponent to be named later. So a solid fight card produced my Top Rank, now if the Rigondeaux-Marroquin winds up being shelved, that will hurt the overall Top Rank card, we'll see what happens. The Top Rank promotion will take place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas and will be televised on HBO Pay-Per-View.
The Golden Boy fight card, which is named, 'Knockout Kings', will feature an intriguing matchup between, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs Josesito Lopez for Canelo's WBC super welterweight championship. Lopez of course was appointed as the winner of the 'who will fight Canelo next' sweepstakes, especially after putting a damper into the plans of a Canelo v Victor Ortiz matchup when Lopez upsetted Ortiz at Staples in Los Angeles earlier this year. In the undercard, WBC featherweight champion, Jhonny Gonzalez will defend his title versus Daniel Ponce De Leon. This matchup alone can be made into a main event any other time, instead we as fight fans will be in for a treat with this one. Also in action will be Marcos Maidana taking on Jesus-Soto Karass in a welterweight showdown. Recently announced, newly crowned IBF lightweight champion, Leo Santa Cruz will defend his title against savvy veteran, Eric Morel. Knockout Kings is set to take place at MGM Grand in Las Vegas & will be televised by Showtime Sports.
In my opinion, there is more bang for my buck on the Knockout Kings card presented by Golden Boy Promotions. Although, I believe Top Rank has a more intriguing main event in Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs Sergio Martinez. The Top Rank undercard lacks exciting fighters and matchups that the Golden Boy undercard has, therfore I believe that Knockout Kings is the more superior overall fight card to be showcased this Saturday September 15th, 2012. Not to mention, that Golden Boy is putting up a $100,000 bonus to the fighter who scores the more exciting knockout of the night, encouraging it's fighters to go for the 'kill'. So once again, Golden Boy Promotion's fight card of 'Knockout Kings', in my opinion, exceeds the Top Rank fight card.
Now I'm not a huge fan of having two premier fight cards going on in the same city and being televised by rival cable networks. I believe true fight fans are held hostage to choose a fight card to either attend or to watch live. In my opinion Top Rank and Golden Boy are merely trying to out do each other by putting their respective fight cards up against each other on the same night, in the same city. I would have considered making the trip to Vegas to experience either fight card, whether it be, Chavez Jr. vs Martinez or Canelo vs Lopez those are great fights. The fact that these 2 promotions are going on the same day, in the same city, makes it impossible for me to make the trip. Instead I will watch at home, and I've made my decision to watch 'Knockout Kings' live on Showtime, while I dvr the HBO PPV card of Chavez Jr. vs Martinez, and watch the whole card right after Golden Boy's fight card, since I believe it has the better fight card.
One way or another, this Saturday September 15th 2012 promises to be a great night of boxing featuring great fight cards by 2 of the most respected boxing promotions, Top Rank & Golden Boy. This is actually a boxing fan's dream of having great fights featured in one solo night, maybe in the long run, we the fans will be the winners of a great boxing night, I can't wait for Saturday!
