Mayweather v Ortiz

So when I heard the news this morning that Floyd Mayweather would be making his comeback from his hiatus from the ring to face Victor Ortiz, I thought, Mayweather might be in for a fight.  With the Pacquiao v Mayweather fight in cold storage, fight fans can only hope for decent matchups for these 2 titans.  With Victor Ortiz coming off his win over Andre Berto, his fight against Mayweather may just be the fight that can put Ortiz in the fore-front of elite boxers in the game.  I just hope this ain't a repeat of "Clottey v Pacquiao" or "Mayweather v (the mis-matched) Marquez".  We might be in for a treat with this one, although I still would like to see a stacked undercard just in case.

Hope u guys stack the undercard, because Mr. Pretty Boy Floyd has a habit of turning in lack luster performances.

The rumors of WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz defending his world title belt against Floyd Mayweather have come true, even if the fighters use their twitter accounts rather than the traditional method of using their respective promoters and publicists. Mayweather, who has been in the news lately for actions outside of the ring, announced on his twitter account around 9AM west coast time that he will face Ortiz on September 17th. “My fans have been waiting long enough. Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz. Sept-17 2011 for the WBC World Championship,” tweeted the flamboyant fighter, who resides in Las Vegas.
Almost immediately after Mayweather made his announcement, Ortiz confirmed as well on his twitter account. “I’m on road to another great fight w pound for pound Floyd Mayweather! I am blessed.”
Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions later confirmed the fight through press releases.
Mayweather hasn’t fought since a 12 round unanimous decision victory over Shane Mosley over last May in Las Vegas. Since then, he has been in the news, but not as much for boxing as opposed to personal problems.
Floyd has dealt with two incidents of alleged assaults on security guards near his home in a gated community in Las Vegas. He has tweeted and documented with youtube videos his gambling habits at casinos.
Ortiz was victorious in his last bout in April, defeating previously-unbeaten Andre Berto to capture the world title belt he will defend against on September 17th. Ortiz survived two knockdowns, dropping Berto twice to win a hard-fought unanimous decision victory.
Although the site has not been officially announced, representatives on both sides have hinted that the bout would take place in Las Vegas.
