Crewest Art Gallery-Farewell

On Saturday December 29th, 2012 the Crewest Art Gallery opened their doors to the public for the final time in Downtown Los Angeles.  Here is some footage of some art pieces, along music provided by DJ's Phyz.Ed & DJ Noez.  Shout outs to the Crewest Crew and Bas, plus Mango Fandango for taking the footage.

Video: Henry Chalfant's 'All City'

Awesome insight to some prominent graff artist and bboy figures in this video short:

Director Henry Chalfant introduces his film All City (1983), which grew out of an idea to do a youth TV program about Hip Hop and other cultural phenomena of interest to young urbanites. The program was never realized, but the trailer grew into a portrait of the different elements of Hip Hop in the mid-80s. The venue is Fashion Moda, a popular art gallery on Third Avenue in the Bronx. There is a demonstration of Bboying, and Rap, followed by a discussion, hosted by Spank TC5, about art and culture with important graffiti artists of the time including Dondi, Butch, Mare and Brim. The video includes a montage of murals by Henry Chalfant and a Pop and Lock lesson by Mr. Wiggles. It features the young Bboy crew, VTB, The Very Tough Breakers.

Fight Review: Donaire v Arce

At the Toyota Center in Houston, Nonito Donaire faced off against Jorge Arce with his WBO Super Bantamweight Ttile on the line.  After taking a Doanire left hook, Arce seemed really reserved on mixing it up.  Donaire scored a 2nd round knock down on Arce, before Doanire struck Arce with a left hook in the 3rd round.  That left hook was the finishing touches to Donaire's quick disposal of Jorge Arce, putting an end not only to the fight, but also to the career of Arce.  Arce announced his retirement after the fight.  Now the question will be who will Donaire target next in his quest for the Super Bantamweight supremacy.

Fight Review: Khan v Molina

In the main event on Saturday Night, Amir Khan beat up on Carlos Molina.  From the first round on, Khan proved to be to fast, strong and skilled for the shorter and lack-luster Molina.  Khan displayed his full potential at Carlos Molina's expense.  The bout was halted after ten rounds, as Molina's corner put an end to the fight.  It was evident that his pace was altered by Virgil Hunter, Khan didn't bounce much after taking punches, he was much more tamed.  Molina proved to be a stepping-stone to Khan's return, as he was beaten to every punch as he was no match to Amir Khan.  Khan's test is yet to come and time will tell if Khan truly can make his way back to the top with a worthy opponent.

In the undercard bout, Alfredo Angulo battled Jorge Silva.  From the 1st round, Angulo and Silva went toe-to-toe in a no holds-barred fight.  Throughout the fight, heavy punches were thrown and landed.  The younger Silva was no push over against Angulo as he gave him all he can handle.  In the end Angulo was too strong and showed good stamina in the late rounds to get the decision over Jorge Silva by identical scores of 97-93(Three Times).

In the early bout at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, Leo Santa Cruz faced off against Alberto Guevara.  Guevara brought the fight to Santa Cruz in the 1st half of the fight, but Santa Cruz sustained.  In the 2nd half of the fight, Santa Cruz did enough to earn the decision, although the scores seemed a bit to wide.  The scores came in 116-112, 118-110 & 119-109.  Despite a wide margin on the scorecards, Santa Cruz did deserve the win with a workman-like performance.

Fight Preview: Donaire v Arce

This Saturday Night on HBO's Championship Boxing, the Filipino versus Mexican rivalry continues as Nonito Donaire puts his WBO Super Bantamweight Championship on the line against Mexico's bad boy, Jorge Arce.  These two are friends outside the ring, but inside the ring on Saturday night in Houston Texas, Donaire and Arce will try to put a beating on each other to gain supremacy in the Super Bantamweight division.  Donaire clearly is the bigger and faster fighter, as Arce must show will and courage to try and even things up with Nonito.  Arce must try to make it a closed quarters fight, as he may be toast if he keeps his distance against the longer Donaire who has light speed punching power.  These two have the skills and pride that can turn this fight into fireworks, so it's gonna be interesting if Arce can withstand Donaire speed and power, if he can, watch out.  Nonito Donaire v Jorge Arce will air live on HBO's World Championship Boxing at 6:30 PM PST.

Noez Prediction:
Donaire Wins by TKO (10th Rd)

Fight Preview: Khan v Molina

This Saturday Night at the L.A. Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California, Amir Khan returns to action to face off against Carlos Molina in a Junior Welterweight Bout.  Of course Khan is coming off 2 difficult losses to Lamont Peterson & Danny Garcia, as he hope to get back to his winning ways against Carlos Molina.  Molina is a perfect 17-0 in his first five years as a professional and looks to keep Khan from rebounding to victory at his expense.  Khan will fight Molina under the watchful eye of his new trainer, Virgil Hunter, and hopes to come in to the fight with a new sense of beginning to strive to get back to the top of his division.  Khan's defense and fight tactics were in question under former trainer Freddie Roach, it will be interesting how Hunter imposes his training will on Khan to prepare him for his bout versus Carlos Molina.  Molina on the other hand must test that chin of Khan and apply pressure by maybe fighting in the inside, smothering Khan and keeping Khan's hand speed to a minimum.  Molina won't be no pushover against Amir Khan as he expects to be victorious and continue his unbeaten streak.  Khan v Molina will air live on Showtime at 7:30 PM PST.

Also in action will be 'EL Perro' Angulo on his quest to return to the top of the Welterweight division when he squares off against fellow Mexican, Jorge Silva.  Angulo too is trained by Virgil Hunter, and is looking for some new tutorship on his climb back to the top.
Leo Santa Cruz will open up things at the L.A. Sports Arena as he will face Alberto Guevara in a bout that will be showcased on national network televison, CBS.  Santa Cruz looks to showcase his talents and exquisite boxing skills to a broader audience live on national tv.  Santa Cruz v Guevara will air on CBS at 1:30 PM PST.

Noez Predictions:
Amir Khan Wins by Decision (Unanimous)
Alfredo Angulo wins by TKO (3rd Round)
Leo Santa Cruz Wins TKO (7th Rd)

Fight Review: Pacquiao v Marquez 4

It was a fight that many people claimed to have been tired of after their trilogy, why a fourth fight, because these two legends of boxing brought back their beloved sport to the lime-light.  Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez were just made for each other, from the opening bell to their fourth meeting, these two warriors resumed where they left off.  Pacquiao was dominating the first 2 rounds during the feeling out process landing some powerful shots.  This time around Marquez stunned Manny with a looping right hand that sent Pacman to the canvas, the tide had been turned in the 3rd round after that big shot.  Manny was not going to let a huge shot in the 3rd round hold him down, he came back with a vengeance in the 4th and 5th round, as he sent Marquez down in the 5th with a hard right hand that knocked Marquez off balance forcing him to touch the mat with his glove to try and stay up.  Marquez survived the 5th round by fighting back as Pacquiao was pouring it on.  The 6th round was more of vintage Pacquaio, but Marquez kept fighting back, despite suffering a possible broken nose.  With one measly second left in the 6th round, Marquez caught Manny with a stiff right that landed square onto Manny's face knocking him out, cold.  Marquez had done it, he took care of any doubt people had in the previous 3 fights with one stone cold shot that was heard around the world.  It is moments like this that reminds us why we love the sport of boxing so much, the element of surprise.  Despite Pacquaio being knocked out, this fight brought back boxing to the fore-front of sports.  And to think, some people wondered why a fourth fight between these two, heck we can only be so luck to see them touch 'em up for a fifth bout.

Fight Preview: Pacquiao v Marquez 4

This Saturday, December 8, 2012 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquaio squares off against Juan Manuel Marquez.  This will be the 4th time that these two future hall of famers will duel it out in the ring.  Of course, Pacquiao has gotten the best of Marquez by defeating him twice, although very close decisions, and one draw.  It's evident that Pacquiao wants to finish off Marquez to silence the critics who have had second thoughts about Manny's two victories.  We as fans are once again in for a treat, as all three previous fights have been barn burners, as this fourth match should be no different.  These two have styles that compliment each other quite well, the aggressiveness of Pacquiao and the sweet counter-boxing of Marquez makes this rivalry such a great rivalry to witness.  I expect more of the same, but maybe Marquez can become more of the aggressor to try and impose his will on Pacquiao early on in the fight.  More fireworks are sure to be set in this fight.  I've heard people talking about how they are tired if this rivalry, but I believe that it's these kind of rivalries that define careers and help enhance the sport of boxing, besides these have been exciting back and forth action packed fights.  Once again, casual boxing fans may not fully appreciate this great rivalry, but I for one cannot wait for Saturday to watch these two legends of the game go at it one more time.  Pacquiao v Marquez will be promoted by Top Rank Promotions and will be televised live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas via Pay Per View.

Noez Prediction:
Manny Pacquiao Wins by Split Decision, lol!

Marley Marl 'Classic Recipes': "Eric B. Is President"

In the second installment of Marley Marl ‘Classic Recipes,’ he shows you how he produced “Eric B. Is President” in 1986, the debut single for legendary hip hop duo Eric B. & Rakim. Marl talks about meeting Rakim for the first time and discusses the collaborative process with Eric B. that would yield one of the most influential hip hop tracks ever. “Eric B. Is President” combines a bassline from Fonda Rae’s bonafide 1982 club hit “Over Like a Fat Rat” and a beat from James Brown’s 1974 hit “Funky President.” Putting these two parts together was a bit tricky due to differences in tempo, but Marley resolved this problem by replaying the bassline with his trusty Casio CZ-101 keyboard instead of just sampling it.

DJ Noez: The Psycho Realm-Showdown (DJ Noez Paradisco Blend)

I've been a fan of The Psycho Realm for sometime now.  It was a pleasure to meet and share the stage with them while in my tenure at Divine Forces Radio.  I know they have a huge following of hardcore fans, so this is my spin on their classic, 'Showdown' where I flip it with a Nu Disco track by Les Loups to give this hard track a different feel to it.  This was recorded straight from my Technics 1200 M5G's & Rane 62 Mixer to my portable Tascam Digi-Recorder, so it's definitely a raw mix, remix, blend, nevertheless, I'm seeking for some feedback, constructive crtiicism if you will, please.  Depending on the feeback, I may release a few downloads.  Shout outs to Sick Jacken, Big Duke, B-Real, Cynic, DJ FM, Street Platoon & the whole Psycho Realm Posse.

Fight Review: Mares v Moreno

This past Saturday at Staples Center in Los Angeles, WBC Super Bantamweight Champion Abner Mares squared off against Anselmo Moreno.  Mares put forth a workman-like effort throwing punches in bunches as he tried to make Moreno uncomfortable and take away his game plan.  Looping right hands routinely thrown by Mares landed on Moreno as he couldn't find his rhythm throughout the fight.  Mares landed a straight righthand in the 5th round that caught Moreno and sent him to the canvas for the 1st time in his career.  In the 8th round, Mares baited Moreno to come at him with all he had, Mares took Moreno's mini onslaught in full stride and ended the round with huge punches of his own.  Moreno did a lot of backing up while Mares supplied the pressure, Moreno even had a point deducted in the 11th round for constantly pushing Abner's head down.  In the end, Abner Mares proved to exhaust Anselmo Moreno with a barrage of punches as he scored a decisive victory by scores of 116-110(twice) & a questionable, 120-106.
Leo Santa Cruz and Alfredo Angulo were also victorious in their respective bouts.  Santa Cruz won by a 9th round TKO.  Angulo won his comeback fight by an incredible 1st round KO.

Fight Review: Mares vs Moreno

This Saturday Night at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Ca, Abner Mares (24-0-1, 13 KO) will defend his WBC Super Bantamweight title versus tough foe, Anselmo Moreno (33-1-1, 12 KO).  These two have been on a war path dismantling their competition leading to their showdown at Staples.  Mares has been on a tear since winning the Bantamweight Tourney, he has made the jump to Super Bantamweight where he will face tougher competition.  Moreno on the other hand is making his mark on the division, crushing his opposition by looking very impressive.  I expect some fireworks and a possible brawl breaking out during this bout, both fighters are tough and have shown great heart in past bouts.  We may be in for a treat with this one, Mares v Moreno will air on Showtime at 7pm PST.
Also in action will be the return of Alfredo Angulo who returns after his long lay-off due to immigration problems.  Angulo will be facing off against Raul Casarez.  Plus rising prospect, Leo Santa Cruz will be on hand to display his incredible punch combination skills as he squares off against Victor Zelata.  Santa Cruz will defend his IBF Bantamweight Title and hope to raise his stock in the division.
I plan to be in attendance at Staple Center in Los Angeles for this great card promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.  I hope to take some flicks to share during my 'Fight Review' of Mares v Moreno, looking forward to the fights.

Noez Predictions:

Abner Mares Wins by Decision
Alfredo Angulo Wins By 4th Round TKO
Leo Santa Cruz Wins by 6th Round TKO

Fight Review: Rios v Alvarado, Donaire v Nishioka

In a 'Fight of the Year' candidate, Brandon Rios defeated previously undefeated Mike Alvarado via 7th round TKO.  These two warriors gave the fans what they wanted and what they expected.  From the get-go, Rios and Alvarado traded shots with back and forth action.  Rios engaged in the maylay while provoking Alvarado with a closed quarters brawl.  Alvarado tried to outbox Rios with utilizing his jab and following through with power punches to the head.  The fight was headed to epic proportions when Rios rocked Alvarado with hard shots to the head that forced referee Pat Russell to jump in and put a halt to the action packed brawl.  Maybe it would have helped Alvarado to take an eight count, but these two fighters have to much pride to hit the canvas on purpose, and that may have helped put an end to Alvarado's night.  Nevertheless, Rios v Alvarado was truly an instant classic, perhaps these two can do it again in the near future.

In the main event of Saturdays bouts in Carson California, Nonito Donaire TKO'd Tokiashi Nishioka in the 9th round.  Donaire swept the 1st half of the fight as Nishioka seemed timid to engage Donaire.  It took a 6th round knockdown of Nishioka to knock some 'fight' into him, from that point on, Nishioka would engage Donaire into a quite entertaining fight.  Donaire proved to be too much for Nishioka as he would score a 9th round TKO.

Fight Preview: Rios v Alvarado

In a Junior Welterweight battle, Brandon Rios(30-0-1) will duel it out with Mike Alvarado(33-0) at Home Depot Center in California.  In this highly anticipated fight, fight fans expect nothing less than a blood-bath war.  Knowing the track record of these 2 warriors how can we expect anything less.  Rios and Alvarado have the same mentality in the ring, receive punishment & give punishment.  Similar fight styles, come foward and go toe-to-toe with their opponent.  These fight traits should result in an all out brawl that has us fight fans drooling for the opening bell of this bout.
Mike Alvarado is coming off notable victories over Breidis Presscot and Mauricio Huerrera, in which both fights were true battles, especially the Herrera fight, which is considered a candidate for this year's 'Fight of the Year'.
Brandon Rios's last 2 fight have been against John Murray and Richard Abril.  He did away with Murray in the late rounds, will winning a controversial split-decision over Abril, where many experts believe Rios truly lost the fight.
The table has been set in Carson this Saturday where Rios and Alvarado, both undefeated fighters, will hope to live up to the expectations of this fight.  A win by either bpxer will catapult them into the cream of the crop in the Junior Welterweight division.  Have your popcorn ready, call some friends and have your DVR going, as this fight should be something special to see, enjoy this one.
This fight will air on HBO at 7 pm PST.

Noez Prediction:
(I'm torn w/ this one)
I'll take Mike Alvarado win by 10th Rd TKO.

Lil Fame & Termanology Feat. Busta Rhymes & Styles P–'Play Dirty' (Prod. By DJ Premier)

Been really feeling the leaks that have been coming out of this Termanology & Lil Fame 'Fizzyology' album.  Here's another leak featuring Busta Rhymes & Styles P and produced none other than DJ Premier with his trademark sound.  Looking forward to the release of this album 11/6/12.

LL Cool J-'Mama Said Knock You Out'(Marley Marl Remix)

A remix I never heard before, Marley Marl's remix of LL Cool J's 'Mama Said Knock You Out'.  It sounds like a mashup, using the intro bassline to Rick James's 'Give It To Me', and also utilizing the funky horns of the same Rick James track on the hook of this remix.  I plan to use this remix and drop the Rick James joint for a smooth transition, don't jack my idea, lol!

Fight Preview: Donaire v Nishioka

This Saturday, October 13th, 2012 at Home Depot Center in Carson, California, Junior Featherweight Champion, Nonito Donaire will put his title up against Japanese Bantamweight Champion, Toshiaki Nishioka in a Super Bantamweight bout.  Both fighters are on top of their weight class and this match could set-up either fighter with more notable fights.  Although Donaire is considered a "Top 5 Pound-for-Pound fighter", a win versus Nishioka can catapult him into more mainstream fights.  The same can be said for Toshiaki Nishioka who looks to upset the "Filipino Flash".  Donaire is used to fighting fighters who are smaller than him, but on Saturday, he will fight Nishioka who will stand eye-to-eye with Donaire.  Each fighter possesses great speed and agility in the ring with the slight edge given to Nonito.  The power edge can also be given to Nonito who has great knockout power.  Nishioka is the much older fighter, at 35 years old, compared to Nonito's 29 years of age.  Nishioka became the 1st Japanese boxer to defend his title in U.S. and comeback home with the title.  He did so when he defeated Mexican great Rafael Marquez almost a year ago.  These two warriors go head to head on Saturday which promises to be one hack of a main event, look for fireworks in this match.  Nonito Donaire vs Toshiaka Nishioka will air on HBO's Boxing After Dark at 7pm PST.

Noez Prediction:
Nonito Donaire Wins By Split-Decision

Look-a-like of the Day

For this version of 'Look-a-like of the Day', it might a bit too far fetched, but yesterday's Endeavor flyover & sighting was pretty cool.  When I saw it while driving through the 605 freeway headed southbound, I couldn't help but notice the resemblance to an odd duo, a duo like SNL's 'Ambiguously Gay Duo'.  The Endeavor looking like the Ambiguously Gay Duo, really?  Let's take a look:
(Sorry if anyone is offended with this resemblance, but hey, it is what it is.)

Bump of the Day

Psychemagik is composed of a duo of producers, in this piece, they remix the great track 'Dreams' by Fleetwood Mac.  An utter pleasure of listening that your ear will truly appreciate, a beautiful rework to an already established song, that is Psychmagik's remix to 'Dreams':

Fight Review: Canelo v Lopez

The main event in the Knockout Kings stellar fight card at the MGM in Las Vegas was between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs Josesito Lopez.  Josesito came in to the fight as the obvious underdog once again, especially since he had to jump two weight classes to meet the young Mexican phenom in Canelo.  Canelo's Super Welterweight title was on the line, but it never really was in jeopardy.  Despite Josesito showing great heart in a valiant effort versus Canelo, Lopez never really hurt Canelo.
From the opening bell, Canelo displayed his great offensive skills, utilizing awesome combinations to the head and body of Lopez.  Josesito clearly was overmatched by the pure power and skills of Canelo, as it was evident from the opening bell.  Doubt had to reign in the mind of Lopez as Canelo shrugged of Lopez's offensive rallies and answered back with clean combos and deadly body shots.  Alvarez took advantage of being able to corner Lopez to the ropes where he got off bruising body punches that Lopez felt & made him cripple to the mat, as was the result in the closing seconds of the 2nd round.  Too much power from Canelo would send Josesito to the mat in the 2:10 mark of the 3rd round.  A great display of defense by Canelo, dodging some of Lopez punches while coming back with another left hook to the body that sent Lopez down.  Canelo was the clear aggressor as he showed total control of the fight highlighted by another knockdown in the 4th round, this time by a combo to the body and head.  Canelo would only need 5 rounds to do away with Lopez as Alvarez would score a 5th round TKO.  A total display of aggression, control, sweet combinations & ferocious body punches by Canelo Alvarez.
What is next for Canelo?  The possibilities are intriguing, the winner of Miguel Cotto v Austin Trout, James Kirkland, Alfredo Angulo or even Floyd Mayweather.  The future is bright for this young Mexican phenom, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Fight Review: Chavez Jr. v Martinez

In a highly anticipated fight, Chavez Jr. vs Martinez fought for Chavez's Middleweight Title.  No more talking smack, it was time to put up, or shut up.  Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez imposed his will and skills very early in the fight, blasting Chavez Jr with an arsenal of technical punches with mobility and accuracy that seemed to confuse the younger champion.  It just seemed that Chavez Jr. was unable to figure out Martinez's fight style, and that clearly lost precious rounds for Chavez Jr. who could never really get off the punches he needed to get off against Maravilla.  A clear shut out and dominant performance was turned in, as a route was in plain sight in front of over 19,000 fight fans at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.  Then, shades of a classic bout between Chavez Sr. & Meldrick Taylor dawned in the 12 round, where Chavez Jr. clearly needed a miracle KO to win the fight, and miraculously so it nearly happened.  Chavez Jr. caught Martinez with a left hook that sent Martinez crashing down in a haze towards the ropes where he in a daze bounced of the ropes and towards Chavez Jr. where he met more punches from him and sent Martinez to the canvas.  Chavez Jr. had less than 90 seconds to try & pull the greatest comeback in boxing history since, Chavez Sr. v Meldrick Taylor.  Martinez made it back to his feet where he went toe-to-toe against the rejuvenated Chavez Jr., unfortunately for Chavez Jr. he needed more time or maybe he would have pulled off the miracle.  One bad round for Martinez nearly cost him the fight, but he survived the 12th round and wound up winning by unanimous decision by scores of 117-110, 118-109 twice.  What a round, a round that now has people questioning whether Chavez Jr. could have finished Martinez if he had more time & would have started his onslaught alot sooner, and now a possible rematch looms in the air.  One can't take away the beating that Martinez gave to Chavez Jr. for 11 rounds, but one bad round could possibly give Chavez Jr. another shot at the title in the near future, Chavez Jr. vs Martinez 2 anyone?

Fight Preview: Canelo vs Lopez

Knockout Kings will feature Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs Josesito Lopez live from MGM in Las Vegas.  Canelo will put up his WBC Super Middleweight Championship on the line when he squares off against Lopez.
Canelo has blossomed into a superstar in the sport of boxing, attracting huge crowds during his fights, and tonight another huge crowd will witness him defending his title versus Josesito.  Lopez forcefully made himself the #1 contender to face Canelo when he defeated, then #1 contender, Victor Ortiz.  Lopez showed heart and determination in that fight, where he proved he can perform in the big stage, as he did at Staples in Los Angeles earlier this year, where he won not only the fight, but the respect of many fight fans.
Canelo must fight his fight, dictating the tempo, using his vicious combinations to the body & head, and being the aggressor showing true ring generalship.  It will be interesting to see, once Canelo begins to tee-off, if Lopez will be able to take Canelo's fury and respond with one if his own.
Josesito Lopez is making the jump from a junior welterweight to super welterweight, that's a 2 division jump.  It'll be seen if Lopez will still pack a punch while gaining weight.  Also by gaining more weight, will Lopez be able to build up enough speed to dodge some of Canelo's flurries.  He showed that he can mix it up before, but can he mix it up with a bigger fighter who is a true super middleweight, yet to be seen.
What makes this such an intriguing matchup, is the fact that Josesito Lopez has been in this scenario before.  Being a huge underdog coming in to a fight showing heart, will, and determination, and actually pulling out the upset.  Can Lopez do it again against arguably the more skilled, stronger fighter in Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.  We will find out tonight if he can shock the boxing world one more time.
I think Canelo will prove to be much more skilled, stronger, and faster than Lopez, I just can't see how Lopez will pull it off again.  I have Canelo winning by TKO in the 7th round, as I think Canelo will prove to be far more superior than Lopez.  But don't count out Lopez, he has grit & enjoys coming in to a fight as the underdog where he has that 'nothing to lose' mentality, and that can be dangerous.
Don't miss out Knockout Kings tonight shown on Showtime Sports at 6pm PST.

Noez Predictions:
Canelo Wins By 7th Rd TKO
Jhonny Gonzalez Wins by decision
Marcos Maidana Wins By 9th Rd TKO
Leo Santa Cruz Wins by decision
