Fight Review: Ring Kings

Made it back from Vegas where I went to be part of the whole Ring Kings Fight experience.  Here is my take on the co-main event featuring Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez v 'Sugar' Shane Mosely, and the main event, Floyd 'Money' Mayweather v Miguel Cotto.
It was youth versus experience in the bout between the young Mexican phenom, Canelo & future Hall of Famer, Mosely.  Early in the fight, Mosely took advantage of Canelo's slow start to try & figure out Shane.  But after the 1st round, Canelo turned on the pressure, throwing hard powerful shots to the head & body.  Mosely was no match for Canelo, despite taking every vicious punch thrown at him and standing toe-to-toe attempting to throw with Alvarez.  Canelo went on to gas out Mosely by working the body with violent punches that really hurt Mosely and prevented him from throwing and connecting any meaningful shots to Saul.  Alvarez worked his uppercut & one-two combinations to a beautiful display of skills which was no match for the obviously aged Mosely.  Despite Canelo suffering a cut above his left eye, due to an accidental head-butt, he never really stop pressing on the gas pedal.  In the end Canelo won a unanimous decision over Mosely by scores of 119-109, 2 times & 118-110.

In the main event, Mayweather v Cotto may have suprised many on how competitive the fight actually was.  Cotto was definitely no push-over and proved it.  Cotto put up a great effort against Mayweather, in my opinon, Cotto may have actually brought out the best Mayweather has looked in years.  Floyd threw the most power punches I may have ever seen him throw.  Mayweather displayed an awesome performance withstanding Cotto's inside pressure, taking his shots to the body and avoiding getting hit in the head with his shoulder roll defense.  Despite suffering a bloody nose, Mayweather kept out boxing the spirited Cotto.  It turned out to be a fun fight to watch due to both fighters will to trade shots.  When it was over, Mayweather got a unanimous decision by scores of 117-111, 2 times & 118-110.  The fight seemed a lot closer than that, I had it 116-112, with Cotto losing the final 3 rounds.  Overall a great night of Championship boxing, proving that boxing is not dead.  Vegas was definitely rocking this past weekend, thanks to a great promotion by Golden Boy & Mayweather Promotions.
