Fight Review: Marquez vs Bradley
By Miguel Maravilla at ringside
WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (31-0, 12 KOs) scored a twelve round split decision over 40-year-old four-division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KOs) on Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. In a tactical battle between counter punchers, the younger, quicker Bradley usually able to get off first. Marquez did well in exchanges, which were far fewer than he wanted. Marquez had his best round in round nine as he rattled Bradley. Marquez continued to come on down the stretch, but it was too little, too late. Bradley almost floored Marquez with a left hook in a late flurry in the waning seconds. Scores were 115-113 Marquez, 116-112, 115-113 Bradley.

Fight Preview: Marquez v Bradley
This Saturday Night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Juan Manuel 'Dinamita' Marquez will meet Timothy 'Desert Storm' Bradley. Bradley will put his WBO World Welterweight Championship on the line against ring legend and 4-time World Champ, Juan Manuel Marquez. Both fighters are coming off wins against the great Manny Pacquiao, and are now trying to escalate their status, especially Timothy Bradley. Marquez has proven and made his mark into the sport, Bradley is attempting to leap into stardom by defeating 2 ring legends in consecutive fights. These two fighters have the ability to make this a great fight, but they both are going to have to be willing to trade. Despite Bradley stating that he will use his boxing skills against Marquez, you have to believe Bradley will feel he has to show Marquez that he can trade blow for blow against the future Hall of Famer. Marquez is coming towards the end of his career, and how would nothing more than becoming a champion for the fight time in his illustrious career. Bradley must be careful if he does indeed decide to box against possibly the greatest counter-puncher in the fight game. Marquez would not mind turning this into a war, knowing that he has the power to test that chin of Bradley's that took quite a beating on his last bout versus Ruslan Provodnikov earlier in the year. This becomes the classic, new and upcoming champ attempting to polish up his profile going up against a future hall of fame boxer who is trying to prove that he still has plenty of gas left in his tank. Despite the circumstances, fight fans are always in for a treat during a Juan Manuel Marquez boxing match witnessing one of the best ever to lace up a pair of gloves.
Marquez v Bradley is promoted by Top Rank promotions and will be televised on HBO Pay-Per-View, live from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Also in action will be Orlando Cruz versus Orlando Salido for the vacant WBO Featherweight Championship. A classic Puerto Rico vs Mexico boxing match.
Noez Prediction:
Juan Manuel Marquez by Unanimous Decision
Orlando Salido by Split Decision

Fight Review: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather VS Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez
Fight Review Courtesy of www.fightnews.com
By Felipe Leon
With precise brush strokes Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr (45-0, 26 KOs) displayed his dominance over the sport and proved at 36 years of age why he still is the pound for pound king as he completely dominated 23-year-old Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KOs) in the main event of "The One" held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. After 12 championship rounds, a majority decision was announced with Las Vegas judge C.J Ross scoring it a shocking 114-114 while Dave Moretti, also of Las Vegas, turning in a 116-112 and Canada's Craig Metcalfe filing a 117-111.
Presented by Mayweather Promotions with Golden Boy Promotions as well as Canelo Promotions, the biggest fight card of the year broke the all-time attendance record with a reported gate of over $20 million dollars with nearly 17,000 fans in attendance plus over 25,000 closed circuit seats sold. The fight was broadcast live by Showtime PPV. With the win, Mayweather captured the WBC and WBA super welterweight titles.
Not having fought twice in years, Mayweather Jr. became a busier man in 2013 after signing a multi-million dollar and six-bout agreement with Showtime. Last May he completely out-classed former champion Robert "Ghost" Guerrero mere weeks after Alvarez captured the WBA 154 lbs. from the hands of Austin Trout with a clear unanimous decision, after sending the previously undefeated champion to the canvas in the late rounds.
Mayweather, of Las Vegas by way of Grand Rapids, Michigan, came out aggressively at the sound of the first bell and looked to score the first punches by going to the body with jabs to the mid-section of the clearly heavier and slightly taller Alvarez of Guadalajara, Mexico. In a close exchange two minutes into the round, "Canelo" landed the hardest shot of the round with a short power punch on the inside. Alvarez looked to use feints early on but the experienced Mayweather Jr looked past them and waited for "Canelo" to commit so he could counter punch. Alvarez went to the body as he mentioned he would in the pre-fight comments landing to the gloves and arms but getting huge reactions from the pro-Alvarez crowd. Alvarez was successful in making Floyd miss early but Mayweather Jr kept scoring the jab with ease.
Things heated up in the third when after "Canelo" missed some big shots Mayweather Jr. didn't and scored two hard right hands that snapped Alvarez's head back while stuck in the neutral corner. Alvarez closed off the ring well in the first half and kept throwing but not scoring anything flush.
What "Canelo" did land flush was a low blow early in the fourth which had Mayweather Jr complaining not only referee Kenny Bayless but to "Canelo" himself. His request to keep it clean fell on deaf ears as far as Alvarez was concerned and accused Mayweather Jr of using his head. "Canelo" kept active but Floyd was getting more adept in counter punching the Alvarez attack with flush right hands.
While the pro-Alvarez was loud with chants of "Si Se Puede" and sing-a-longs in Spanish in the first half of the fight, suddenly they grew quiet in the second as Floyd began to pick his shots and landed almost at will with at times a smile on his face. He became more precise with left hooks to the body and head, right hooks to the body and straight rights to the face.
Despite the scoring of C.J. Ross in which she gave Alvarez four of the last five rounds, Mayweather Jr was truly dominant and made the young, tough and skilled fighter, look as rudimentary as most of his opponents. Mayweather Jr. used every tool in his arsenal, from moving around the ring to staying in the pocket and exchanging with Alvarez in the middle of the ring.
Despite Alvarez looking for the body throughout the fight, Mayweather Jr had no problem leaning against the ropes and letting Alvarez try to score a body to his midsection with not much luck.
Alvarez had his moments such as a short right hand in the ninth but Floyd didn't even flinch. Alvarez in the closing rounds began throwing bigger punches which only glanced near Mayweather Jr. as he used his legs to stay away.
Knowing that he perhaps behind on the cards, Alvarez looked to score big, swinging for the fences, and looking to score big rights. Alvarez still threw punches with power but just wasn't close to landing much of them. Mayweather Jr in the last round did nothing but moved, as it was clear that he had the fight in the bag.
According to the fight stats, Mayweather Jr threw 505 punches to Alvarez's 526. Mayweather Jr landed 46% with Alvarez only 22%. Mayweather Jr landed on average eleven of twenty-seven jabs per round and 53% of his power punches to Alvarez's 31%.
"He looks to score points a lot and it is hard to fight somebody like that," a clearly disappointed Saul Alvarez said at the post fight presser. "His punches are not hard but precise."
Mayweather Jr was full of praise for Alvarez during his time at the presser: "He is a young, strong champion who will carry the torch and has everything it takes to be a legend. Tonight was just my night. I only have twenty-four months to go and then this is the guy."
Mayweather Jr did mention that he would be fighting again in May of next year dubbing it "Cinco de Mayweather." No word who his next opponent would be.
Fight Review: Garcia v Mathysse
Fight Review Courtesy of www.fightnews.com
By Felipe Leon
In what many hoped and expected to be an all-out slugfest, Philadelphia's Danny "Swift" Garcia (27-0, 16KOs) put the finishing touches on his run in the junior welterweight division by erasing all doubt in his win over Lucas "The Machine" Matthysse (34-3, 32KOs) of Argentina via a unanimous decision in the semi-main event of "The One". The 12-round championship fight was for Garcia's WBC and WBA titles while Matthysse held the WBC silver strap. Many fans and experts believed that this fight and not the Mayweather-Alvarez bout was the fight of the night and although it did not live up to the all-action war that was expected, the championship fight still delivered.
Previous to the match up, both fighters were on impressive runs with the undefeated Garcia defeating Erik Morales twice, the second time by brutal knockout, Amir Khan by 4th round stoppage and in his last fight, former champion Zab Judah via unanimous decision. Matthysse had been terrorizing the division with brutal knockouts of all his most recent opponents, stringing together since stoppages since his last loss, a controversial split decision to Devon Alexander back in 2011.
As soon as the first bell rung, the arena grew surprisingly quiet as the sold-out crowd waited on bated breath for the first big fight. Both fighters threw a left hooks mid-way through the round as Garcia moved defensively around the ring.
Matthysse struck first with a left hook in the second and seconds later another hook followed by his money punch, the right hand. Garcia took it in stride and escaped when the hard-hitting Argentine attempted to trap him in the red corner.
Both went to the body often and early in the fight but really were looking for the appropriate range to land power shots to the head. Matthysse seemed to have trouble finding his distance for much of the fight, missing his big right hands by inches, as Garcia pivoted well and gave his opponent different angles.
The pace quickened and more punches where thrown and landed in the fourth as a heated exchange broke out. Garcia was successful in catching Matthysse on his way in as he unleashed a four punch combo to the body then scoring an over hand right.
Things got even more complicated in the seventh for Matthysse as a straight jab early in the round caused a mouse under his right eye. After a number of left hooks by Garcia, his eye had completely closed by the end of the heat. With only one eye, Matthysse had trouble defending against one of Garcia's best weapons, the left hook, and Garcia began insisting more with the punch.
By the eleventh Garcia was cruising to a defining win but Matthysse gave it one last push as he came out hard looking for a big punch to land. He did in the early seconds of the round as a big right hand knocked out Garcia's mouthpiece and sent it flying across the ring. Once the action resumed, Matthysse scored again forcing Garcia to clinch. With the crowd on its feet, Matthysse kept coming forward looking to finish the fight but Garcia had other plans.
As the Argentine came after him, Garcia turned him near the ropes and proceeded to land a left hook, followed by a right hand and then another left hook that put Matthysse down on the canvas.
The knockdown sealed the deal for Garcia and proved that he is truly the best 140 pounder in the world. With the fight pretty much in his pocket, Garcia clinched for the majority of the first half of the twelfth and final round but still was able to score a good four punch combination and then followed it with another flurry of punches. A flagrant low blow by Garcia nullified the knockdown of the previous round as referee Tony Weeks took off a point from the Philadelphia fighter. Surprisingly, in the last ten seconds of the fight, Garcia decided to trade with Matthysse who at first looked confused by the tactic and then was more than happy to oblige all the way to the final bell.
Judges Robert Hoyle and Juergen Langos both saw it 114-112 while Glenn Trowbridge scored it a slightly wider 115-111, all for the unified WBA and WBC light welterweight champion Danny "Swift" Garcia.

Shot of the Day
Well tonight is the night all eyes will be on tonight's fight between Floyd 'Money' Mayweather vs Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez for the undisputed Super Welterweight championship in Las Vegas in the MGM.
Fight Preview: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather VS Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez
The wait is over, 'The One,' Floyd 'Money' Mayweather steps into the ring with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez for the undisputed Super Welterweight Championship this Saturday in Las Vegas at The MGM Grand. Boxing fans having been super excited and intrigued with this matchup, as they believe Canelo is Mayweather's toughest foe yet. It'll be the classic tale of the young rising superstar attempting to take the current legend's throne.
Floyd will need to control the pace and not let Canelo get off, Mayweather's jab will be crucial for him to dictate the flow of this match. His ring generalship will also be important to stacking up rounds and possibly picking up a decision. Mayweather cannot look to slug it out with Canelo as he did against Miguel Cotto, instead a true boxing performance is expected from Mayweather like the one he dished out on Robert Guerrero. He must also stay off the ropes, as Canelo's power could help Canelo turn the tide to the fight.
Alvarez's weight at the weigh-in proved not to be an issue as he achieved the catch weight of 152 pounds, and now the question is how many more pounds will Canelo gain during the rehydration process. Canelo must maintain a comfortable weight, one that will allow him to keep mobile to even attempt to try to keep up with Floyd's elusiveness. Combination punching will be vital for Canelo to try to get an edge over Floyd, especially when he closes the gap. Hard body punching must be utilized in the inside for Alvarez to try and home Floyd's excellent defense. Canelo cannot afford to give up rounds early, he must try to dictate the pace by being the more aggressive fighter. Canelo's power could prove to be the key to Alvarez's success during this fight, but will he be able to land big effective shots to control Floyd's stamina in the ring remains to be seen.
Interesting matchup indeed between Floyd and Saul, this fight can prove to be a huge success if the fight lives up to it's expectations. Pay-Per-View record numbers are expected to be set, and to think that people still believe boxing is dead, they can't deny an intriguing matchup, and these same folks who make these claims will be the same ones who will help shatter the records for viewership come Saturday. It's matchups like these can once and for all stop the false claims that boxing is dead. Enjoy the fight everybody.
Floyd Mayweather versus Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, The One, will be for the undisputed Super Welterweight Championship and is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. It will be broadcasted by Showtime Pay-Per-View live from The MGM in Las Vegas.
Noez Prediction:

Fight Preview: Garcia v Mathysse
This fight will match two knockout artists at the top of their game which can only bring out fireworks. Garcia expects to try and outbox the slugger Mathysse, to do so, Garcia must utilize a jab to set up his big left and right hooks all while trying to avoid getting caught by Mathysse's expected onslaught. Mathysse is expected to come forward and come at Garcia, so it will be up to Danny to keep his distance from the Argentinian bomber while attempting to land effective combinations. It will be interesting to see if Garcia will be able to withstand Mathysse's pressure, and if he would be able to effectively sustain his stamina if this fight goes the distance.
Lucas Mathysse will no doubt look to make quick work of Garcia by stalking and setting him for big right hand and left hand hooks. Also interesting, is if Mathysse's strong chin will be able to withstand Danny's big overhand left hook. Mathysse power sure seems to favor him for this fight, although Garcia's own power cannot and should be counted out.
Expect for Garcia to try and outbox Mathysse for the first few rounds, but then all heck should break loose where we the fans can be treated to an all out slugfest between these two great knockout kings.
It is important to note that Lucas Mathysse is favored to be the the champ Garcia, so look for Garcia to use that as fuel and as a chip on his shoulder to prove the naysayers wrong.
One can't deny that we boxing and fight fans are in for one heck of a fight with Garcia vs Mathysse, bombs away.
Danny Garcia vs Lucas Mathysse will be part of 'TheOne: Mayweather vs Canelo,' to be aired on Showtime Pay-Per-View September 14th, 2013 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Exile-"Zip Disks & Floppies"
"I wanted to share my album with everyone on youtube with a stop animation loop me and Tony Browning Created symbolizing the death of my Floppy and zip disks to save my beats. This Album entitled Zip Disks in Floppies, contains 13 RAW BEATS STRAIGHT OUT THE MUTHAF%#KIN MPC 2000 XL STEREO JACK. Each copy of Zip Disks & Floppies 12″ comes with a different Color vinyl."
WHEN I WAS 15 YEARS OLD, BEFORE THE INTERNET, BEFORE THE EXISTENCE OF STATE OF THE ART BEAT MAKING PROGRAMS THAT QUANTIZE OR ADD EFFECTS, MY FIRST BEAT WAS CONCEIVED USING TWO TAPE DECKS AND A TURNTABLE, FOLLOWED WITH BEATS FROM A SINGLE PUSH BUTTON SAMPLER AND 4-TRACK, PROGRESSIVELY MOVING ON UP TO A ROLAND MS1, AND OF COURSE THE MPC 2000. STACKS UPON STACKS OF FLOPPY DISKS SAVED MY BEATS, SOMETIMES EVEN USING 2-6 FLOPPIES FOR ONE BEAT. NOW MY BEATS ARE CREATED USING A A MPC 2000 XL AND A ZIP DRIVE CAPABLE OF HOLDING UP TO 15 BEATS, BUT WITH ONLY 10 LEFT I'M LEFT WITH A PROMISE TO MYSELF THAT IT IS TIME TO UPGRADE TO A NEW MACHINE TO MAKE BEATS. THESE BEATS ARE JOINTS I HAD LAYING AROUND THAT WERE NEVER USED, BUT ITS STILL HEAT. BANG THESE BEATS LOUD AS WE NEAR THE END OF MY BEATS ON THE MPC 2000 XL.//////?

Rhythm Roulette With El-P
This time around on "Rhythm Roulette," we linked up with the one and only, El Producto. The Def Jux general blessed us with the opportunity to gain some insight on the process, which has helped him make classic material since 1993. After heading to a hole-in-the-wall record shop and picking out some dusty old warped records, El showed us how to make something out of nothing/s, starting with his rusty, self-fixed, ASR-10.

World Famous Beat Junkies Crew Interview
The World Famous Beat Junkies turntablist crew stop by Dubspot to discuss their love for turntable music, being active for more than two decades, and the current state of DJing and music technology.
The Beat Junkies (DJ Babu, J Rocc, D-Styles, DJ Shortkut, DJ Rhettmatic, DJ What?!, Mr. Choc, Icy Ice, Curse, Melo-D, and DJ Havik) incorporate highly skilled turntable techniques with party rocking. In this video, the Beat Junkies talk about their versatile performances in which they incorporate team routines, individual routines, and party-rocking turntable music. They talk about how forming a group helped them to individually develop their skills. Although the art of DJing has completely changed since the group's founding in the 1990s, they talk about their respect for DJs who have great song selection and play for the crowd. However, they discuss how their art is completely different as turntablists, more akin to live musicians as they are using turntables as instruments to create new music, and are prone to error.
As technology and the internet developed, the Beat Junkies remained enthusiastic as these improvements create new ways to further their craft and add new musical elements to the music they perform with. They continue to represent the art of turntablism and display hip-hop in its purest form.

Lecture: Masters At Work
Their name says it all: Masters at Work. ‘Little’ Louie Vega and Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez are celebrating more than 20 years together, shepherding dance music down new paths with their inventive production style and imaginative feel for different musical forms. Synonymous with the rise and peak of NYC house music, Kenny Dope and Louie Vega met through their mutual friend Todd Terry, resulting in a fruitful production partnership full of timeless hits. With remixes being their specialty, the Masters at Work treatment has been given to a diverse roster of artists, from Madonna, Debbie Gibson, and Lisa Stansfield to Saint Etienne, Michael Jackson, Brand New Heavies, and about 800 other artists. They defiantly mix everything they can find—house, hip hop, funk, disco, Latin, African and jazz—into a universal groove. In doing so, MAW has become a cultural mélange unto itself, emblematic of the multicultural society in which we live. Watch their lecture from the 2013 Red Bull Music Academy in New York.

Jay-Z Drop New Album "Magna Carta Holy Grail" July 1st
"We don't have any rules, everybody's trying to figure it out. That's why the Internet is like the wild west..." as Jay-Z remarks, alluding to the new digital age of music and distribution. "We need to write the new rules" states Jay-Z in the Samsung teaser commercial.
This is just another example of how large companies leverage music as a marketing tool to reach the younger generations. Although in Jay-Z's case, I'm sure Samsung made it worth his while.

Fight Review: Mayweather v Guerrero
What can be said after Saturday nights May Day event. Floyd Mayweather faced Robert Guerrero in a Welterweight Championship bout. For 12 rounds, Mayweather did nothing but take Robert Guerrero to class as he schooled him giving him a boxing lesson he won't soon forget. Mayweather boxed brilliantly as he caught Guerrero with fast swift jabs and avoiding punches thrown by Guerrero. It was an awesome display of boxing skills that prove to make Floyd Mayweather, pound for pound, the best that boxing has got to offer at the moment. Guerrero never really threaten in any round as he was simply out boxed and out skilled by the much more experienced and older Mayweather. The game plan was simple for Mayweather, hit and don't be hit, and Floyd executed it brilliantly. Guerrero was never in the fight as Mayweather destroyed any game plan he may have had coming into the fight. Floyd Mayweather went on to win by unanimous decision as all judges scored the fight the same, 117-111. Now the question becomes who will be next up to try and dethrone the best pound for pound kingpin in boxing.
Matt Kemp's Post Game Gesture
Despite Matt Kemp's slow start for the Dodgers in the 2013 season, gotta give him mad props for he awesome gesture making a kid's night memorable.

Fight Preview: Mayweather v Guerrero +Undercard
May Day is finally here, this Saturday May 4th, 2013, Floyd 'Money' Mayweather will face Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero in a Welterweight Championship showdown. It's become a spectacle knowing that Floyd Mayweather holds court on or around Cinco De Mayo facing the best opposition to make it a huge boxing weekend. Next up to bat and have a crack at Floyd, is Robert Guerrero. Guerrero has been calling out for some time now, and finally gets his man this Saturday night at the MGM in Las Vegas. Guerrero has worked his way into scoring a fight with Mayweather by jumping two full divisions and pulling off an impressive victory over Andre Berto to be the next to have a shot at Mayweather. Floyd took out Miguel Cotto last year, and now looks to take out the young lion in Guerrero this time around. Robert will have to use to the same fight tactics that he used in the Berto fight, fight hard, rough and touch with some dirtiness in the mix. He can't afford to get into a boxing match against Mayweather, he will be beaten and outscored. So Guerrero needs to get off, with smothering Mayweather on the inside, catching him against the ropes and attacking the head and body. For Mayweather, it'll be interesting to see if he will be willing to mix it up against Guerrero, like he did last year against Cotto. Last year, Mayweather went toe-to-toe with Cotto, and pulled off a great performance and fight that many didn't expect out of Floyd. Mayweather can easily pull off an unimpressive victory by outpointing Guerrero, so time will tell if he will impress boxing fans by mixing it up with 'The Ghost.' It all goes down this Saturday, at MGM in Vegas, where theWBC Welterweight title will be on the line. Mayweather v Guerrero is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and will air live on Showtime Pay-Per-View at 5pm PST.
In the undercard, Daniel Ponce De Leon will put up his WBC Featherweight Ttile against undefeated Abner Mares. This fight has been predicted by many boxing experts along with the fighters themselves, to steal the show this Saturday night. Mares is moving up in weight after dominating the Batamweight and Super Bantamweight circuit. Ponce De Leon is coming off a huge victory over Jhonny Gonzalez, whom he won the WBC Featherweight title over. This fight is sure to bring fireworks, as these two will put it all on the line to take hold of the division, and make a statement as who is the top Featherweight.
Also in action will be Gabriel Rosado, who looks to bounce back against J'Leon Love, after being destroyed by Gennady Golovkin. Plus Leo Santa Cruz is back in action looking to rack up another impressive victory as he squares off against Alexander Munoz in a Junior Featherweight Title match. Looking forward to another big night in boxing this Saturday night.
Noez Predictions:
Floyd Mayweather Wins By Unanimous Decision
Abner Mares Wins by Split Decision
Gabriel Rosado Wins by 9th RD TKO
Leo Santa Cruz Wins by 6th RD TKO
