Fight Review: Garcia v Judah

On Saturday Night, Danny Garcia faced Zab Judah to try and defend his WBC/WBA Championship title.  Garcia and Judah gave the fans at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn New York a heck of a fight.  Garcia outboxed and out slugged the aging Judah in the 1st half of the fight.  Zab was a bit gun shy, not utilizing his left to often.  Danny put an exclamation to the bout as he landed a big right hook that wobbled Judah putting him in survival mode in the 5th round.  Garcia finally put Judah to the canvas in the 8th round with a huge overhand right counter that landed on Zab producing a cut underneath Judah's left eye.  From that point on it seemed that it would be a matter of time before Garcia can put away Judah, but Judah showed a lot of heart and determination as he would not only survive, but also hurt Danny in the later rounds.  Both fighters would be forced to fight with cuts and blood running down their faces throughout the duration of the fight.  In the end it would be to late of a rally as Zab would come up short losing on a unanimous decision. Judges scored it, 115-112, 114-112, 116-111, all for the winner, Danny Garcia, who is still clearly the man to beat in the Junior Lightweight division.  Zab Judah on the other hand, kept his name relevant by his late round heroics.  Time will tell what is to come to both these fighters that produced a fan friendly affair in Brooklyn New York.

Fight Preview: Garcia v Judah

On Saturday Danny "Swift" Garcia will face off against Zab "Super" Judah for Garcia's WBC/WBA Welterweight Championship.  The fight will take place in Brooklyn New York at the Barclays Center.  Lately there has been a lot of 'mouths running,' but come fight night, all that will stop, and we'll see who can back up their talk.
Danny Garcia is coming of impressive knockout wins against Amir Khan(TKO) and Erick Morales.  While Zab Judah has worked his way back into a title fight.  Garcia needs to utilize his jab and look to land his big overhand left.  Judah must defend against Garcia's left and maybe look to make it a tough inside fight versus Garcia.  With Garcia's recent pedigree and level of competition that he has beaten, it is hard to go against the champ.  Judah hopes to pull the upset by using his experience and making it a difficult fight.  I expect fireworks from these two fighters, Garcia is out to prove that he is the best welterweight in the division, and rightly so.  Judah is out to prove that he can still bang and hang with top tier fighters, it will be interesting to see what comes out of this fight.
Danny Garcia v Zab Judah will be televised on Showtime at 6pm PST.

Fight Review: Canelo v Trout

This past Saturday, a Super Welterweight unification bout between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Austin 'No Doubt' Trout took place.  The fight was at The Alamodome in San Antonio Texas, in where over 38,000 fans were on hand to see the match.  Early in the rounds, it seemed that Trout was outboxing Canelo, by utilizing his jab as the main punch of choice for the WBA champ.  Canelo displayed Pernell Whittaker-esque defense in the middle rounds by dodging, bobbing and weaving out of Trout's offense.
Canelo would drop Trout with a straight right in the beginning of the 7th round, where it was clear that Canelo was landing the harder punches.  Trout put up a valiant effort as he continued to try to outbox the WBC champ, but Canelo would prove to be too powerful for Trout.  Despite not displaying his awesome combination assault, Canelo would display good defense along with good power.  In the end the fight would reach 12 rounds, where Alvarez would outpoint Trout by scores of 115-112, 116-111, and a horrible, 118-109, to get the unanimous decision victory.  Canelo is now the unified Super Welterweight Champion, and is the one boxer to beat in the 154 pound division, enough said.

Fight Preview: Canelo v Trout

This Saturday in San Antonio Texas, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez facess off against Austin 'No Doubt' Trout at The Alamodome.  Canelo is the WBC Super Welterweight Champion as Austin Trout is the WBA Super Welterweight Champion.  This fight will be a Unification bout between these two champions in front of an expected crowd of over 38,000 fans.  Both fighters are on top of their game, with both of them coming off dominant performances in their last respective fights.  Canelo is coming off a 5th round TKO over Josesito Lopez, and Trout is coming of a unanimous decision victory over Miguel Cotto.
Many experts believe that this will be the first real test for the young 22 year old champion Alvarez as he faces a true champion in his prime in Austin Trout.  The true test for Alvarez is if he can sustain and over come the much longer and taller Trout during the duration of the fight.
For Trout, he is to take on the young phenom Canelo and see if he can withstand the sheer power of the young champion.  Expect Trout to use his length and keep his distance from Canelo avoiding that left hook to the body.  Trout must also stay away from Canelo's combinations to the head and body.  Look for Trout to try and outbox and out score Canelo during the fight.
Alvarez must use his power and strength to get to Trout and engage him in exchanges.  He must work in close quarters to land effective punches and to display his awesome combinations.  Expect Canelo to be the one pressing the fight and encouraging Trout to mix it up with him.  Trout will be in a hostile environment, despite not being to far from his hometown in Las Cruces.  It will be a very pro-Canelo crowd indeed, but Trout is used to a hostile crowd.  Remember, he did face and beat Miguel Cotto in Madison Square Garden in New York City, so the crowd should not be much of a disadvantage for Trout.  A hard fought, clean and tactical bout is expected between these two champions, with the winner claiming the top position in the Super Welterweight Division.
Canelo versus Trout is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, will take place at The Alamodome in San Antonio Texas and will be televised by Showtime at 7pm PST.

Noez Prediction:
Canelo Wins by Unanimous Decision

Fight Review: Donaire v Rigondaux

It was a battle of two champions, two great fighters last Saturday night at The Radio Music Hall in NYC.  Nonito Donaire took on Guillermo Rigondaux in a champion versu champion fight.  From the get go, Donaire seemed to be puzzled by Rigondaux's elusiveness and speed.  Guillermo  used the "stick and move" technique to perfection throughout the fight.  Instead of staying in their and mixing it up with the bigger Donaire, Guillermo decided to outbox Nonito, and out box him he did.  Nonito really never got off  or get nothing going against Rigondaux.  The crowd booed throughout the fight, not appreciating the precision of Rigondaux, as they expected more out of this fight.  Despite a showing of life when Donaire landed a left hook on Rigondaux knocking him down to the canvas, Nonito was simply outboxed and out scored.  Scores were  114-113, 115-112, 116-111.  Rigondaux is now a Unified World Champion.

Fight Preview: Donaire v Rigondeaux

This Saturday at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, Nonito 'Filipino Flash' Donaire puts his JR Featherweight World Championship on the line versus WBA Super Bantamweight Champion, Guillermo 'El Chacal' Rigondeaux.  It will be a battle of champion versus champion in a unification bout with Nonito being the more accomplished fighter being on the top 5 pound for pound fighters list over the last few years.  Rigondeaux has far less experience in the professional circuit, although he has built a very impressive amateur career including being a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist for Cuba.
There have been talks by both fighters on how they will be aggressive pushing the action to one another.  Especially Donaire, since his last fight in New York was a snoozer, thanks to Argentina's Omar Navarette's plan not to mix it up with the champ.  So Donaire wants to make it up by taking his aggression out on Rigondeaux on Saturday night.  Rigondeaux also plans on making a statement, trying to prove that although he has only 11 professional fights, that he belongs with the elite fighters in the game.  Hopefully the last couple of Top Rank Main Events have inspired these two fighters to put on a show for the fans.  It will be interesting to see if Rigondeaux indeed mixes it up with Donaire.  Also to see if Rigondeaux can take a 'Filipino Flash' assault, especially the blinding left hook of Donaire.  Once again, Nonito is far more seasoned fighting and taking out world class fighters to become one of the pound for pound best.  This will truly be a test for Rigondeaux to see if he belongs in the upper echelon of supreme fighters.  That test will come this Saturday as Donaire and Rigondeax will put up, or shut up as they will try to unify their titles at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Donaire v Rigondeax will be televised by HBO's 'World Championship Boxing' at 8pm PST.

Noez Prediction:
Donaire Wins by Majority Decision

Fight Review: Rios v Alvarado II

In the anticipated rematch between Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado, unfinished business was at hand.
From the opening bell, both fighters went at it with their back and forth, give and take action.  But in the second round, after their continued back and forth action, Rios hurt Alvarado with a rare lunging jab that wobbled Alvarado.  Rios continued to apply pressure to Alvarado with uppercuts and looping right and left hooks from Rios.  Alvarado survived the round by fighting back and matching Rios's offensive assault with an assault of his own to cap an exciting second round.  In the third round, Alvarado would land a few overhand right hooks, one in particular that wobbled Rios and encouraged Alvarado to bring a barrage of punches to capitalize on a huge third round for him.  From that point on Alvarado began to box beautifully against Rios, sticking and moving and picking his spots on when to come in and trade with Rios.  Brandon could not find an answer to Alvarado's boxing display, in where Alvarado would occasionally switch to a south paw stance, throw effective right hooks and continue to move and keep Rios off balance.  Rios would not go out without his occasional big shots, but Alvarado managed to take them and give them right back to Rios.  It was a close fight, but Alvarado distanced himself in the last 3 rounds winning them outright with a great display of boxing skills that many experts didn't think he would continue on through the duration of the fight.  In the end, Alvarado would get his revenge by winning a unanimous decision, by scores of 115-112(twice) and 114-113.  The table is now set for a grudge match in an expected trilogy between these 2 warriors, let's see it again, why not.
